Usuf Chikte is an Emeritus Professor in Health Systems and Public Health, Department of Global Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
His academic work focuses on Public and Global Health and his qualifications include a BChD (UWC), MDent (Community Dentistry) (WITS), MSc in Dental Public Health and PhD (SU). He served as a Head of the Department of Community Dentistry, Head of the School of Oral Health Sciences, Associate Dean, and Executive Head of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences and Global Health.
His stewardship includes serving as President, South African Dental Association, and President of the College of Dentistry. He was also Editor of the South African Dental Journal and chaired the National Fluoridation Committee. In the Health Professions Council of South Africa he led the Education and Training Committee, Quality Assurance Committee and the Education and Registration Committee of the Medical and Dental Professions Board. Usuf also chaired the Institutional Audit Committee of the Council on Higher Education of South Africa. He currently serves on the Ministerial Task Team on Human Resources for Health and serves on the Office for Health Standards and Compliance.
His research focuses on oral epidemiology, oral health care systems and human resources for health framed within inequity and social justice.
